Archaeological Survey of India, Ranchi Circle is newly created of A.S.I. which have been bifurcated from Patna Circle in 2003. Before creation of Ranchi Circle, it was a Sub-Circle under Patna Circle and the office of Conservation Assistant was estabilished at H.I. - 31, Harmu Housing Colony, Harmu, Ranchi.


    BRIEF HISTORY OF RANCHI CIRCLE, RANCHI (ACHIEVEMENTS)

Archaeological Survey of India, Ranchi Circle is newly created circle of A.S.I. which have been bifurcated from Patna Circle in 2003. Before creation of Ranchi Circle, it was a Sub-Circle under Patna Circle and the office of Conservation Assistant was established at H. I.-31, Harmu Housing Colony, Harmu, Ranchi.

In initial stage it was under Patna Circle, Dr. Smt. Urmila Sant was then the Superintending Archaeologist of Patna Circle who was also the Incharge of Ranchi Circle. It was dated- 04.6.2003 the glorious day of Ranchi Circle when Shri O.N. Chauhan has taken the charge as Superintending Archaeologist from Dr. Smt. Urmila Sant and has successfully established an independent Circle. Eleven monuments/sites of centrally protected were handed over to this circle. These monuments/sites are as under:

BRIEF NOTE ON THE CIRCLE.

The main objective for creation of Ranchi Circle was to look after more properly those monuments / sites which are situated in the remote areas of Jharkhand.

Apart from these, Ranchi circle has taken proper attention for the maintenance, development and conservation works of the above mentioned monuments / sites. There are twelve more monuments / sites which are thoroughly investigated and details report submitted to the O/o the Directorate General, ASI, Janpath, New Delhi for approval and declaration as centrally protected monuments / sites. These monuments / sites are as under:-
